What color should I paint my room?

I have a small room, and I thought of using light colors so I bought Tart Apple which is a light green. But it looks ugly and so now I'm going to buy another color. I'm thinking wild violet which is like a light purple or maybe purple mauve. What color will create an atmosphere that is nice to be in? Like nothing to bright but nothing to dark.
