Question for the guys....kinda dumb but need to make sure.?

Last night my boyfriend and I were snuggling and he was holding my hand. I think he thought I was sleeping but I wasn't. Anywho, he grabbed my ring finger (left hand) kinda rubbed it a bit and shook his head yes. What the crap does that mean? I pretended not to notice, but I've just been thinking about it and was curious. So...what's the verdict?
