Why Dhoni alone declared man of the match in cricket W.C. Final?

In recently concluded Cricket world cup final Gambhir and Dhoni both have contributed in critical situation and helped India to clinch the world cup. However when two openers picked up at the begining of innings by Sri Lanka, Gambhir came and laid down the foundation by playing two critical partnership, then why Dhoni alone awarded the man of the match award.
